Privacy

This policy has been adopted by the Aged Persons Welfare Foundation (APWF) in order to comply with the requirement of the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act No. 155 of 2000.  The policy should be read together with the National Privacy Principles (NPP) as contained in the Privacy Act 1988.  The NPP set out how private sector organisations should collect, use, store, and disclose personal information.  The APWF policy is set out below.

  • The APWF will comply with the NPP.  If there is an inconsistency between the APWF policy and the NPP, then the NPP will prevail.
  • The APWF does not collect personal information unless necessary for its purposes, functions, and activities.
  • The APWF will only use personal information for the primary purpose for which it is collected.  Individuals will be informed of the purpose for which the information is being collected.  These purposes will relate to the charitable, social, and administrative functions of the APWF to enable it to assess and distribute grants and to perform the functions herein described.
  • Primarily, the APWF collects personal information for the benefit of grant applicants and those persons receiving services and functions from grant applicants.  The APWF may have an important function in maintaining personal information for the purpose of analysing the role of the APWF in society.  This information may be disclosed to scholars studying the APWF.  The APWF does not release any information for purposes such as direct marketing and does not sell any mailing lists.  The Foundation ensures that all information is accurate and up to date.
  • The APWF will make the best endeavour to keep all information secure at all times.  Electronic data is backed up regularly and secured through password protection.  Our premises are secured by locked doors and a security alarm.
  • Owing to the nature of the APWF’s activities, mainly charitable and personal services, it must collect sensitive and confidential information.  The only reasons we will release any information is in connection with our primary activities, and only if there is a reasonable expectation that the information will be disclosed.  The release of certain information may also be a legal requirement.  The APWF however will endeavour to seek consent from persons or organisations if sensitive information is sought for something other than the primary purpose of the APWF as described above.
